Hi experts,
I’m trying to file an amendment for my 2025 federal and state tax returns and could use some guidance.
My original return was filed by my CPA without my final sign-off, and it appears there was an error - my backdoor Roth IRA contribution was double-taxed. I prepared a corrected return using TurboTax and attempted to file it on April 15, but it was rejected because my CPA had already submitted a return on my behalf.
I’ve reviewed the instructions for filing an amendment, but I don’t see the “File an Amendment” option in my TurboTax account. I’m wondering if this is because the original return was not filed through TurboTax.
I’ve tried contacting my CPA but haven’t received a response for the past two weeks, so I’m exploring alternative options. Is there a way to file an amended return through TurboTax in this situation, or would you recommend a different approach?
Thank you very much for your help.

An amended return uses the original return as a starting point. To prepare an amended return with TurboTax, you first have to recreate your original return in TurboTax, making sure that it exactly matches the return that was filed, then amend the recreated return.
Some people will tell you that you have to print the recreated return (create a PDF) to make TurboTax think that you filed it. That is not necessary with TurboTax Desktop. I don't know if it's necessary with TurboTax Online.
