Filing 2018 Taxes Late

I filed an extension (on 4/15/2019)  to file my 2018 tax returns.  Then missed the 10/15/2018 deadline.

I am almost done with my taxes.   I will not owe any money because I am running a loss from my rental property business.

What penalties or fines is the IRS going to hit me with?

Thanks!!!

Filing 2018 Taxes Late

If you file the 2018 tax return for a tax refund or there are no taxes owed then there are no penalties for filing the tax return after the due date.

Filing 2018 Taxes Late

Filing late when you do not owe is not a problem ... only folks who owe are penalized.  However the efile system is closed for 2018 returns so you must print, ink sign & mail in the return now.  The ONLINE system will go offline tomorrow night so if you have already started the return you have until then to finish & print the return.

To complete and file a 2018 tax return using TurboTax you would need to purchase, download and install on a personal computer one of the 2018 desktop editions from this website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

A 2018 tax return can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed.
