Filed an extension in April and can't figure out how to now finalize my tax return

Hello,
I filed a federal tax return extension in April. I want to complete my taxes now but can 't see where to do that. I don't see any link that says "continue my return" or anything like that. Can someone tell me where I should be looking in order to complete this?

Thanks!

We cannot tell from your post whether you are using online TurboTax or the CD/download.   You do not say whether you actually started to prepare your tax return; you only say that you filed an extension request.  We cannot see your screen or your information.   If you requested an extension, the IRS knows it, and there is nothing else "special" for you to do now beyond preparing and filing your return, except to make sure you have entered any estimated payment that you made when you requested your extension.

If you are using online TurboTax and you started working on a 2023 return, then use the exact same account and user ID to continue working on that return.   If you did not even start on a return, then you need to choose the version of the software you will use, and prepare your return.

Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them.  Log out of the account you are in now.

If you are using the CD/download, and you began working on a return, then you need to launch the desktop software and go to FILE on the toolbar at the top of your screen, and open up your return in order to continue working on it.

If you have the CD/download but did not start a return, launch the program from your own hard drive then go to the toolbar at the top and click File and then New Return to start on your 2023 return.

When you requested your extension you were supposed to pay your estimated tax due.  Did you enter the payment you made into your tax return?  Go to Federal>Deductions and Credits>Estimates and Other Taxes Paid>Other Income Taxes

Make sure you know which software you are using.

We see people get confused and they keep logging in to online software which will require them to pay at the end.   You need to use the desktop software.   One way to tell if you are using the right software---your tool bar.   Online software has the toolbar in a black vertical column on the left side of the screen.   Desktop software has the tools up on the top of your TT screen.
