FEEDBACK: A few suggestions to make TurboTax easier to use

After using TurboTax for 10+ years, I have a few suggestions to make it easier to use:

  • On File / Open screen, add the ability to see full filename when hovering over the file open options
    • I sometimes create multiple versions of the tax return to do what-if scenarios and I can’t see the rest of the filename to know which is which.  I know I could put the differentiating text at the beginning of the filename instead but that shouldn’t be necessary.

  • When going back to review various sections of the return in TurboTax, there are various places where selections I’ve made are cleared and I have to enter it again to get to the next screen.  This is annoying, as I’ve already answered the question and I’m just trying to review the return.  This slows down the process for no reason.

  • Also related to the ability to review a return, going screen by screen every time I want to go back to something is very annoying and time consuming.  I suggest having the ability to view a “timeline” that the user can scroll through quickly to go directly to the screen they’re interested in.
    • For instance, you have a screen for Federal Taxes / Wages & Income, and the user can see all the topics and go directly to the topic they are interested in.  However, once a topic is picked, you may need to go through a dozen or more screens to get to where you want to be.

  • Some screens have check boxes and ask the user to check “any of the following that apply”.  It would be nice to always include a “none of the above” option so when going back to review later, it is clear that this screen was already looked at and completed.  Again, it goes back to the ability to review your work quickly without having to rethink each of the questions.

  • Here’s one I added after trying to provide this feedback via the “Tell us what you think” option in TurboTax.  I spent a considerable amount of time writing my suggestions and when I clicked “Submit”, TurboTax said “Oops, the server’s not available right now.  Try again later” and then removed the screen with all of the text I just typed.  Suggestion is to keep the screen up so the user has the option to copy the text to a notepad for later.

FEEDBACK: A few suggestions to make TurboTax easier to use

1. its a bit crazy that there is no way to email Intuit or Turbotax. They ought to make an address for contacting them short of a phone call.

2. Another suggestion for TT is to help customers with the quarterly tax payments scheduling (2020 Form 1040-ES payments). They can do this by 1) setting up for us to get an automatic email a week before due, and 2) having a place on TT for us to record quarterly payments sent either in the downloaded program or online account.
