If you entered it as regular W-2 wages, it may cause an error. If you entered it in the Job category, click on the trashcan next to the entry. Then enter the W-2G as gambling winnings:
It's in the right place trust me. I do this every year, only without the rejections.
The payer's federal ID number should work. If you have received this form in the past from the same casino, you may want to compare it to one from a prior year. A typo on the form could be causing the rejection.
First TurboTax only accepts number with a hyphen and I can't delete the hyphen; second I don't understand what you mean by "Jump" as I deleted the entry then returned to enter the information again. Again hyphen was included in TT and again my return was rejected.
I called TT and was basically told I would have to mail in the return. Someone should be able to fix this.
Is the EIN you are trying to use a 9 digit number in this format: 12-3456789
The hyphen that TurboTax automatically inputs should not matter, but if it is not exactly nine digits, there may be a typo on your W-2G from the casino. If you have ever received another W-2G from them, you can use the federal ID number from another form. You can also try contacting the payer to verify that the Federal ID number reported on the form is correct.. Their phone number should be next to the federal ID number on the form.
To enter the W2G, instead of using the Jump to link, you can also go to the Federal > Wages & Income > Less Common Income > Gambling Winnings.
I am having the same issue. I verified it is input to the Less Common -> Gambling Winnings section, verified the number, deleted and reinserted..all no change. Still rejected. I have 3 W2Gs from the same place, and the EIN is the same on all of them. Any advice?
The EIN and the name of the payer are the key components that the IRS is checking through e-file for identity of the payer. Only they can tell you the actual name that is listed with the IRS.
You can enter the winnings without using the W-2G by following the steps below. The most important action is that all of your income is recorded on the tax return. The IRS already has copies of the W-2G in their possession so entering them in the software is a convenience. And if there is any federal (and/or state) withholding you can enter that as well.
If you have federal withholding (and/or state) follow the instructions below:
Thank you,
I deleted all W-2G entries and re-entered EVERYTHING, then submitted the return and it was accepted.
Just as a note: I copied and pasted all entries into a Word document from TT then when I re-entered the W-2G I copied from Word and pasted the information into TT so the information initially entered was correct. Hope others will not have to go thru this, but your answer was correct, delete then enter W-2G info.
thank you
Not working. Has worked every other year.
I had the same issue and the only way was to delete all W2G entries and re-enter the information. I don't know why this is the case as I too had in previous years no issues.
