Get your taxes done using TurboTax
The EIN and the name of the payer are the key components that the IRS is checking through e-file for identity of the payer. Only they can tell you the actual name that is listed with the IRS.
You can enter the winnings without using the W-2G by following the steps below. The most important action is that all of your income is recorded on the tax return. The IRS already has copies of the W-2G in their possession so entering them in the software is a convenience. And if there is any federal (and/or state) withholding you can enter that as well.
- Sign into your TurboTax Account
- Under Wages & Income > Scroll to Less Common Income > Gambling Winnings > Start or Revisit
- Delete your W-2G > Done or Do not Add another W-2G > (We didn't receive a W-2G) > Continue
- Enter your winnings > Continue > Enter losses if applicable (losses are only used if you can itemize your deductions)
If you have federal withholding (and/or state) follow the instructions below:
- Under Deductions & Credits > Scroll to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid > Income Taxes Paid > Start or Revisit
- Scroll to Other Income Taxes Paid in 2021 > Federal and/or State select Withholding not already entered on a W-2 or 1099
- Enter the federal and state withholding amounts (be sure to select your state if applicable)
