Federal extension filed - need to file for state extension if filing within allotted time?

Filing New Mexico taxes before the end of Sept '22.  TurboTax Premier has a section saying that NM follows Federal rules that it's automatic, and if you have filed the Federal extension you have until Oct 17, '22 to file NM taxes.  It then says "do you want to file your NM extension"?  Do I need to file for an extension if I plan to file my taxes before the end of September '22?  If I "just" file my NM taxes before Oct 17, do I even need an extension?  TurboTax Premier is not clear.
