I need more time to get my taxes together so I'm thinking of filing an extension with the IRS. I've already paid all my taxes (as per my estimates). I don't want to use the paper filing 4868, I see that the IRS grants an extension automatically when you make an extension payment through the IRS account.
My question is two fold:
1. Since I've already paid all my estimated taxes (110% of last years taxes minimum) and possibly expect a refund, can I make a $0 extension payment and still get an extension?
2. When I make an extension payment above, can I the screenshot of the IRS extension payment be used to get an extension for Georgia state tax returns well?

You can get a federal extension without paying any tax when filing Form 4868, the federal personal income tax extension form. You do not need to do anything else to extent your Georgia personal income tax return, as you can see here: Georgia tax extension
I was asking about the non paper route, specifically about filing an online extension payment if that would work with $0 and if that would be valid for GA extensions.
You can e-file the federal extension form 4868 with this link. When you file the extension, say you owe no tax. The federal extension will apply to the state of GA also. Both give you an extra 6 months to file.
There are two ways to request an extension to file your Georgia income tax return. You can either request an extension on your federal return or fill out Georgia Form IT-303 if you only need a state extension and don’t need a federal extension. Both methods provide a six-month extension to file your state return.
