Do you remember which broker showed up? I tried the login URL from the online version but it couldn't find anything. Desktop version doesn't have the URL option.
yes, that option doesn't work in desktop version.
So its completely a waste of time
And TR doesn't have anything to say. Just keep selling faulty software ???
Bull**bleep** TT.
I wasted so much time on TurboTax and E*Trade this tax season regarding this issue with import 1099 from E*trade. I am now using TaxAct and will move money out of E*Trade next week.
@rabindra_das Ok, so i went to the desktop version that I had paid for, had to install updates, and yeah, it does NOT have the ability to use the url to find the broker. And it seems to also have one less version of E*trade than it did before (It had 3 now has two?). Anyway, you can try it with the online version and see if it works before you pay for that or if you think it's worth it. But the online version for some reason is better than the desktop by a lot. You can attach your 1099 to it as well. Whereas before the desktop had better capability. I am asking for a refund for the desktop download.
Also I had about 200 pages of trades for Etrade and it imported no problem when i did the online version. I was not able to import from my other account due to it being over the threshold for number of trades and, but I just did the summaries and attached the 1099 and was able to import from my crypto broker. The online version is much much better this year. I don't know why they released such different versions.
Thanks a lot for this info. Will see if I can try online version as they may not refund the desktop.
Thanks
RK
I had the same issue an nothing would work (not even importing online and they discontinued Etrade Bank from selection menu).
I WAS SUCCESFUL USING https://www.investotek.com/ (only cost $5!)
It consolidated my entries, reported everything correctly!
Good luck
same failure when import from etrade, any solutions?
For me at least, where I normally need to sign into ETrade (web or mobile) using a password with a 6-digit security key appended onto the password, when I left the 6-digit security key off, TurboTax was able to successfully pull my documents.
I don't love that this is true, because security, but at least it finally worked!
I'm not sure how you were able to do it with investotek, I tried it and when I went to the broker instructions page, it clearly says it does not work with E*Trade right now and you have to use their full service.
Here is the excerpt from today, 4/18:
Unfortunately, there are currently a few issues with data from E*Trade. Note that you will be using a download from the "Portfolios" view and NOT from the "Tax Center". Previously, you could obtain a "Realized" gain/loss download that was directly compatible with Excel2TXF. However, it appears that they now only offer a "Taxable" gain/loss download which unfortunately requires additional manipulation. We are working to update the software to deal with the issues, but it will take another week or two. For now, you will need to choose the full service option (If you already purchased the software, but need to switch to the Full-Service option, you can upgrade here.
Note: There is one more problem with Etrade's data - they list the 'Open' and 'Close' transactions, rather than the 'Buy' and 'Sell' transactions, so if you have any short-sales, the data will be in the wrong order. But, no worries - Excel2TXF will automatically adjust for these entries.
it works, you need to get the latest version (which you will get automatically if you are purchasing using the website and this year's version). I saw the below on the website as well but his website is outdated and the excel marco does work with E*Trade correctly.
I confirmed with Jeff the developer/founder/owner
Turbotax and Etrade offered WAY TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE! Pleading and begging messages and phone calls for MONTHS to both companies did nothing to solve MAJOR download issue. It's both their jobs to help make personal income tax reporting efficient and error free!! - Masters in Tax Accounting, Top 3 Ranked University
I'm having the same problem with the same response from Vanguard and TD Ameritrade. The auto response is the same too "There isn't any tax related info to import right now". I have received the 1099's in the mail already so the info is there but the Turbo Tax software isn't importing. Someone at Intuit needs to fix the problem now!

I switch to H&R tax software this year and had no problem downloading my day trade 1099 from Etrade’s. 2023 taxes already filed and ready to be e-file. Only issue is H&R block will charge you an extra $19.99 to e-file your state tax, this is sucks
The problem with Turbo tax is too many transactions on your 1099, turbo tax has a limit on it. Or may be it was not ready to be import online from your brokers.
