f1 student resident alien

Hi,

I am an exchange student with f1 visa in 2013. The visa was for both 2013 and 2014, but I stayed only in 2013 as a student. In later 2014, I came back for vacation on a B1/2 visa and stayed till early 2015.

In 2016, I stayed in the U.S. on a B1/2 visa as an internship for about 190 days.

Then I was again a student on f1 visa from mid-2017 to now (2021).

Should I use turbo tax return for 2020?

Thanks!

@qlab19911992  counting all the days present in 2020 + 1/3 of the days present in 2019 and 1/6 of the days present in 2018 you would be  resident for tax purposes  for  2020.  Thus you should file a form 1040 showing  your world income  ( TurboTax supports  form 1040 ).   As a student did you have  income   that requires filing ?

Thank you for your reply! Yes, I do have W2 and salaries from the u.s. since 2017.

I also realized that I earned a couple of academic credits as a student in 2016 from a 7-week long summer program, so I think I will be fine filing as a resident alien starting from 2020.
