Hi,
We purchased an Electric Vehicle in Jan 2023. We know that the vehicle qualifies for the full tax credit of $7,500. (VW ID4, MSRP under $53,000, purchased and placed in service in Jan 2023).
I just e-filed my taxes and the federal return got rejected because the VIN does not match the e-File database. I triple-checked the VIN and what I entered is the correct VIN number.
Turbo tax is saying that if the VIN originally entered is correct, then a "binary attachment or [GeneralDependencySmall] with description beginning with "Substantiate VIN" must be present in the return".
I searched online what that means and I think I have to attach a PDF file substantiating the VIN number/purchase. Problem is, I can't figure out how to attach a pdf file to e-filing. Is it possible to do that? Or do I have to print out and file by mail?
Many thanks in advance.

You can attach a pdf to your tax return in TurboTax - but only in certain instances where TurboTax is designed to accept the pdf and submit it. I don't think this is one of those. In this instance you will probably have to print out and mail your return along with the document from the dealer verifying the VIN number. Also wouldn't be a bad idea to take a photo of the VIN and print it out and mail it as well.
I'm disappointed in the answer, as I too bought a brand new, made in America 100% qualified, vehicle. Since I cannot e-File, is my payment of $25 for filing refunded?
