Do I file estimated taxes at the beginning or the end of a quarter?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You should file the estimated taxes at the end of each quarter, however due to the government's fiscal year the second quarter is not a full quarter.
Per the instructions for Form 1040-ES -- Estimated taxes are paid each quarter as shown below. TurboTax can help you estimate your payments for each quarter.
You can pay all of your estimated tax by April 15, 2024, or in four equal amounts by the dates shown below.
1st payment . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . April 15, 2024
2nd payment . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . June 17, 2024
3rd payment . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sept. 16, 2024
4th payment . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Jan. 15, 2025*
* You don’t have to make the payment due January 15, 2025, if you file your 2024 tax return by January 31, 2025, and pay the entire balance due with your return.

each estimated tax form has a due date. to be timely the payment must be made on or before the due date look at page 2 of filing instructions if you need to refer back but they should be at the top of the form when you print them out.
anyway they are for 2024
4/15/2024
6/17/2024
9/16/2024
1/15/2025
you do not have to use them.
you can register at IRS website and make the payments online (nothing to mail so nothing gets lost in the mail). most if not all states also have a website for payment
you do need to enter accurate info - personal, banking/credit card/ year they're for and the type which is 'estimated taxes"
