Error on Form 8880 Line 11 Credit Limit Smart Worksheet

There is an error on Form 8880.   The Line 11 Credit Limit Smart Worksheet, Line 1, Says: "Enter the amount from Form 1040, 1040SR, or Form 1040-NR, Line 17......"

It should say Line 18 on the 2020 1040 Form, and obviously use the Line 18 value

Error on Form 8880 Line 11 Credit Limit Smart Worksheet

After 8 weeks of trying to get Turbotax to fix a confirmed error, including multiple posts on the community page and over 2.5 hours on the phone with 5 different intuit representatives, all who acknowledged there was a turbotax problem with Form 8880 and worksheets, Intuit has still failed to fix the problem.  I have been forced to buy a competitors tax software to file my taxes.   if you use form 8880, do not use Turbotax to file your taxes.

I can only wonder based on my experienced, how many other known confirmed problems with Turbotax go uncorrected.

Error on Form 8880 Line 11 Credit Limit Smart Worksheet

I am using the desktop version and my 8880 smart worksheet reads for line 1:...1040 line 11, more than  $32,500...? Which is correct for the AGI. After the worksheet, is the actual 8880. Here is the Form 8880. The 1040 line 18 is tax liability.

I wonder if you need to update your program or if there is something else going on?

Error on Form 8880 Line 11 Credit Limit Smart Worksheet

It is the Form 8880 worksheet that needs corrected.    Below is the information from the exact Form, and is not what is shown in Turbotax.

Line 11
Before you complete the following worksheet, figure the amount of any
credit for the elderly or the disabled you’re claiming on Schedule 3
(Form 1040), line 6. See Schedule R (Form 1040) to figure the credit.
Credit Limit Worksheet
Complete this worksheet to figure the amount to enter on line 11.
1. Enter the amount from Form 1040, 1040-SR, or
1040-NR, line 18 . . . . . . . . . 1. (Turbotax shows Line 17)
2. Form 1040 or 1040-SR filers: Enter the total of
your credits from Schedule 3, lines 1 through 3,
and Schedule R, line 22.
Form 1040-NR filers: Enter the total of your
credits from Schedule 3, lines 1 through 3 . . 2.
3. Subtract line 2 from line 1. Also enter this amount
on Form 8880, line 11. But if zero or less, stop;
you can’t take the credit—don’t file this form . 3

Error on Form 8880 Line 11 Credit Limit Smart Worksheet

Since I bought a competitor's software to finish my taxes, I hadn't been in Turbotax for a few weeks.  I thought I would check today to see if the forms were updated with the 2020 changes.  Not to my surprise, the tax form still has not been corrected, even after 11 weeks of confirming there was an error in the form, and today's date is April 16th.  How many other form have never been updated for 2020,,even after the normal tax deadline.  WOW, I'll never use turbotax again!!!
