I have used TurboTax for many years. This is my first time that I ran into this error message 119 twice when I tried to open my saved file!

Error 119 when opening the file is caused by file corruption. If you made a backup copy of your tax return file, open the copy instead. Otherwise, you'll need to start a new return as TurboTax is unable to fix or restore damaged data files.
I was using my turbotax 2020 It asked me to fill in some information from 2019. I looked at my turbotax 2019 which was on this same computer and it wanted to run an update.
While it was updating the 2019( I am now doing my 2020 tax returns) Why would it need to update. My 2019 tax returns were turned in last year. while it was updating my security software noticed it was loading malware.(trojan) I tried it again and the same message came up. Thank goodness I have security loaded on my computer.

Because turbo tax update my last years tax program( for what reason I don't know, because That was last years) and it caused a corrupt file now I have to redo my 2019 taxes all over again.
I didn't make a backup file because I trusted turbo tax. What a mistake.
When using the downloaded program it is your responsibility to safeguard the tax files ... always back them up more than once and save to more than one removable storage medium like a thumb drive.
Once you have filed successfully … you can shut off the auto updater function and then save the return & .taxfile.
For Windows, up in the top menu, you can set the "Updater Preferences" to "Always Ask" or more commonly set to "I don't have an internet connection" (even if you do), and then you are not forced to update....and can manually force an update when you choose to do so. And then you can open the file(s) at any time with no forced upgrade.
But that's the Windows software.....not a MAC. For a MAC you cannot turn off the auto updater HOWEVER you can simply disconnect from the internet before opening the tax return.
It's always a good idea to make a backup copy of your tax data file, in case your original gets lost or corrupted. Here's how:
If you make changes to your original tax return file, repeat these steps to ensure your original and backup copies are in-synch.
AND save it as a PDF so you have access to a copy even if you don’t have the program still installed and operational :
AND protect the files :
