TurboTax says that I owe a "Tax on excess accumulations in a retirement account" yet I made no contributions to my traditional IRA and I am not old enough to require a required minimum distribution (RMD) yet. How do I prevent TurboTax from unnecessarily penalizing me? I did make a RMD from an inherited IRA, and I'm certain it was in excess of the RMD, besides TurboTax has not asked any questions necessary to calculate an inherited IRA RMD.

Box 7 ==> Code "4" is for an inherited IRA, otherwise you will not get any question about that.
just state that whatever you took out was the RMD.
Can you clarify what forms you are entering as far as retirement income?
Did you inherit an IRA?
Are you the spouse or someone else?
What year did the original owner pass?
Did you get a 1099-R for that account and if yes, what code is in Box 7?
Was the original owner required to take RMD in 2024?
What did you do with the remaining balance of the account?
I assumed this happened because my 1099-R information for my Inherited IRA was imported from my broker and TT did not prompt me for any missing information. When I did a Federal Review, it identified the areas for the missing information and it zero'd out the tax.
