I installed TurboTax 2021 premier about a week ago and it installed fine and updated. Today when I logged in it said I need to update again so I did and it looked like it downloaded the update but then got error 1603. I am running Windows 11 X64. Tried several times with the same results including turning off my anti-virus program and turning off my vpn. The only solution that might work that I read was download and manually install update but for version 2021 it doesn't seem to exist.

Well didn't get any replies and search didn't show any answers so uninstalled program and reinstalled and it took updates and all is ok. PFM.
TTax 2021 has worked fine for 2 months. Just yesterday said it needed an update. Updated and got the error 1603. In a loop where if I do not update, the program will not open now, and the program will not update. Win 10 Pro - all patches. Re-installed. Worked for one day. Back to error 1603. Followed all fixes, admin rights, admin sign-in, run as admin, drives and folders have all permissions, .net software has been re-installed, tried install with only basic windows programs running, etc. NOTHING WORKS. No issues with any other programs except TTax!!! Help. Please Fix. Went through this last year. Will use Block next year for sure!
I have had exactly the same problem only on Windows 11. It has happened twice. I was able to fix it but uninstalling the program and it fixed the problem for me. Been using TurboTax for over 20 years and first problem I have had. I'm sure they know about the problem as I have talked to a couple other people experiencing it. So far program has worked now for 3 days but not holding my breath. As suggested I did the manual update but problem comes back. All other programs working fine and thought the expert says registry problem etc etc I am positive it's a problem with TurboTax program that they won't admit is their problem. Even reinstalled TT on a fresh install of Windows. Pain in the #ss.
Hi @katrina,
Thanks for the reply.
I have done all that!
Did you even read my post stating that before sending the Intuit canned response?
I am sure you are trying your best, but Intuit needs to fix this so everyone with this problem can file on time. Really, if you can't get into the program, you can't even file for an extension!!!! You could extend my installs past 5 so I can file, as the only real fix right now is to re-install after every TTax program update.
Regards.
It sounds like you tried the suggestion that Katina offered above. It has helped for some people which is why she suggested it to you. If you still need assistance, and are finding no resolve, you call customer support here.
I'm getting the same error when it wanted to update today. I did the manual update but when you run TurboTax it again wants to do an update and I get error 1603. What is interesting is when it attempts to update it says it's 100 complete and then instantly afterward I get the Error 1603. I'm running Windows 10, Home, everything is up-to-date. The program has been loaded for 2 months, no update problems in the past. The next process will be to uninstall and reinstall TurboTax. This sure is wasting a lot of my time.
Why the heck doesn't TT just admit there is a problem. Lots of people are having this problem. Used turbo for over 20 years but will use a different program next year. I have had to re-install it 3 times before I could finally finish and transmit my return.
I uninstalled and reinstalled, works again. Took about an hour of my time. I will let you know if it gives me trouble again. TurboTax is sending me emails congratulating me for these entries and giving me badges, wish they would put the same amount of effort in solving their bugs.
I am having the same problem when trying to update. Has TT fixed the bug yet?
Please try to manually update the software by following the instructions here.
If this does not work, you can also do a complete uninstall/reinstall of the software.
Please let us know if we can assist you further. @tskimball
You have to uninstall and reinstall TT, that fixed the problem for now, hopefully permanently. You would think a company like Intuit with a $137B market cap would have the bugs figured out by now.
Same problem with 2020 return, so yes, 2 years???????????
No, I used H&R Block, no problems importing. This is the first year I decided to give TurboTax a try since the last time 15 years ago.
