So your 2017 tax return was never filed? And you owed for 2017?  Your late filing penalties and interest have been adding up since April 18, 2018.

You do not say whether you are getting a 2018 refund.  If you are getting a refund for your 2018 return, wait to file it for awhile.  There is no penalty for filing late if you are getting a refund.

Then FILE your 2017 return--pay what you can.  When you file your 2018 return, the IRS will offset your refund for the tax you still owe for 2017.

If you also owe for 2018, post back for further help.  Oh, and you will have to use zero when it asks for a 2017 AGI to e-file 2018--since you did not file it on time.

You need to print and mail your 2017 return.  It cannot be e-filed.  Since you paid your TT fees, you should be able to get to it, but may need help from customer support:

Online preparation and e-filing for 2017 is permanently closed.  You have to download 2017 software to a full PC or Mac (not to a mobile device) and then print, sign and mail your return.  If you already paid for your TurboTax software, you can contact customer support to push a download of the software to you.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS and/or your state received the return.

Thank you.  I paid some last April and filed an extension.  But did not complete before October.  I have made some payments, but have not filed 2018 and have no idea about a 2018 refund.  I have tried to contact Intuit, but their phone line is completely impenetrable. Any suggestions?

These are the busiest days--getting through on the phone is really hard.  You might have to give it a few days. So you have not even started on 2018 to see where you stand for 2018?

I have not started on 2018, but I like your idea of an extension but taking care of it asap this time.  Would a tax professional for 2017 be best?  But turbotax believes I do not have a right to talking to a human, according to the robot.

When you tried to contact customer support were you trying from within the account you used for that 2017 return you paid for?

@epo39b You are so much better at navigating the online labyrinth than I am--any thoughts about this one?

I'm not sure what has been unanswered is at this point.  If you used a paid edition in 2017, then you still have phone privileges as long as their system recognizes your account, which it may not have.   As xmasbaby0 said, it "should" have if you contacted Support from inside the 2017 account in which you paid, or if the phone system recognized your User ID when you gave it.  So is the question now about how to contact TurboTax Support to ask for the 2017 software to finish the 2017 return?

Try this alternate tool at the link below to contact Support.  In the form where it asks what product you are using, in the dropdown menu go ahead and indicate that you are using CD/download software since that's what you will be asking for, and that's the product that is most likely to hook you up with Support..

In the question line just say something like this without quotes:   "previously paid for 2017 online; please provide 2017 software."

Hours are 5AM-9PM Pacific (8AM-12 Midnight Eastern).  They are open this weekend.
