Hi,
I received a 1099-NEC from a Canada-based company with 89 as the prefix in the TIN. When I check the return for errors, I get the following: "Payers EIN is invalid for electronic filing". Is there a way to work around this?
Thank you!

To clarify, what was the payment for? Was it for work performed for the Canadian company?
Hi. Yes, it was independent contractor work (writing) performed in the US for a Canadian-based company. I confirmed the TIN with the company's auditor who said that Canadian companies are required to issue tax forms to US residents, however it appears the TIN is not recognized in the US. Thank you!
Yes, you will need to enter this information as self-employed income but you won't enter this as a 1099 NEC..
Thank you! Just to clarify how enter in TurboTax, do you mean that I select "Other self-employed income, includes cash and checks" and then note the company info in the description box?
Yes, choose other self-employed income etc... and enter a description of the income being reported and that it is foreign income.
