Several  states do not have a state income tax.  So these states will not show up in certain drop down lists.   Leave boxes 15, 16, and 17 blank when you enter a W-2 for these states.

Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming

Since TX does not have a state income tax there will not be a TX state ID number.  The typical reason for this error is a stray entries/spaces in the state boxes on income forms.

If the error is for the form W2 revisit that topic and be sure there is no state line with information in box 16 with a blank box 15.  If there is, delete (trashcan) the line.  If there is blank line delete (trashcan) that line as well to clear any stray spaces.

If the error is for a 1099R revisit the "IRA, Pension..." topic and edit the 1099R.  If there is a box 15 with TX in it, delete it.  If there is an amount in the state distribution box 16 but no state in the line, delete the amount in the state box 16.
