IND-031-04 - The primary taxpayer's AGI or Self-select PIN from last year does not match IRS records.

We did not submit electronically last year, does this cause the problem?

Those who did not E-file last year  (perhaps paper mail-filed late, or perhaps not even processed yet)...or did not file at all....they should try using a zero for last year's AGI when e-filing your 2021 tax return.

Now it's rejected and says:

IND-032-04 - 'SpousePriorYearPIN' or 'SpousePriorYearAGIAmt' in the Return Header must match the e-File database.

...we filed jointly through the mail last year...

IF you filed jointly last year, then you put the exact same AGI for both of you.

Either both of you as zero's  (especially if you mailed it in late in the year)

......or both as line 11 from your 2020 Form 1040.

We can't tell you exactly which will work, since we can't know the details of when the IRS actually processed that file.  Late-processed tax returns, many times, do not get their AGI values transferred into the E-filing computer system, that's why a zero is sometimes used.
