Please clarify how you entered the sale of the rental property. Did you use the Step-by-Step interview or did you fill out the forms manually?

I did step by step.  When I reached the rental income section,  I went o my items depreciated which I edited each asset and marked the sold area with the sale price fr each asset.  The gain, per TurboTax was then transferred to form 4797 to 1040.   However, turbax will not let me Efile saying that form 4797 (lines 19a, 20, 21 and 22 were overwritten which I did not do and cannot correct the error.  Thank you

You may be able to correct his using Forms Mode in TurboTax for Desktop.

  1. Open your return and click the Forms icon in the TurboTax header.
  2. In the list of Forms in My Return on the left, scroll down and look for Form 4797 p2
  3. Click the form name to open it in the large window.
  4. Scroll down to Line 19a.
  5. Click the amount on this line.
  6. Click the Errors icon above "Forms in My Return" to open a message about errors under the open form.
  7. You may need to right-click and choose "Cancel Override." Or choose "Data Source" to trace the amount back to the entry causing the error.
  8. If the Errors information doesn't provide a solution, you may need to delete Form 4797. Then re-enter the sales of your rental assets.
  9. Click Step-by-Step in the header to return to the main screens.
  10. Now run SmartCheck again to see if the error has been resolved.
