I am getting a message when I try to efile my taxes saying it appears to be a duplicate transmission. I have definitely NOT filed my taxes however, I did register for my stimulus check earlier in the year on the IRS website.  Is this possibly why I am getting the message?

    It depends.

If you registered on the IRS website as a non-filer, then yes, this could be the reason you are receiving the message about a duplicate transmission.

If so, you will need to print out your return and mail it in to file.  You will not be able to electronically file it.

If you did not file your tax return yet, you will need to mail your return in.  You would get this message if your Social Security Number was used to file an income tax return.

Please see the following information from the IRS if you believe someone filed a tax return using your Social Security Number.
