Efile - Dependents IRS PIN does not appear to be submitted on 1040.

I have an IRS PIN as does my dependent adult child, My wife does not, I was ready to EFile but I wanted to double check that the PINS are correct.  My PIN is entered on Form 1040, but not my dependent's PIN. Her PIN is recorded in one of the Turbotax Worksheets but I gather it is not sent electronically,.

The IRS FAQ says that for E-filing, my dependents PIN must be entered on
1) 1040 form - There is no place on this form for a dependent's PIN,
2) Form 2241 - Child and Dependent Care expenses, but I did not file one
3) Schedule Earned Income Credit - we don't file for this either

What is the fix? I have to file by mail?

There is no place on the paper form 1040 for a dependent's IP PIN ... that info is sent electronically when you efile.

No, you will be able to e-file, but I think you are getting the PINs confused.   There is an e-filing pin, that only you know (5 digit number you chose last year if you e-filed).   If you filed with TurboTax last year, the pin will be there, saved when you go to e-file.  There is one for you and your spouse - dependents don't have e-filing pins (Self-Select PIN) - you and your spouse will choose a new 5-digit pin when you file this year also.   And for this pin, you can use the same one you used last year, it doesn't matter.

The other PIN is the IRS-issued IP PIN.  You get a CP01A letter each year for these PINS and they get entered on your tax return.  To enter this pin (one for you and your adult child), see this link.   Not everyone has an IP PIN, but if the IRS sent you one (and your child), you must enter both of them on the tax return in order to e-file.   If you don't enter them, your return will get rejected.   But if this happens, you can go back and add it/them and re-submit your return.   You and your dependent will get a new letter next year with a new IP PIN from the IRS.

IP PIN vs. Self-Select PIN

Yes. I am talking about CP01A pins issued to myself and daughter. These are the 2023 updates.

I have looked at my forms that are submitted bt Turbotax for efiling, and only my IRS PIN is entered in the box by my signature. I am using the windows version of the Turbotax download. Both Pins were entered as requested during the Turbotax dialog. I see mine being used properly. I see my child's PIN displayed on one of the worksheets that is not submitted. Perhaps Turbotax sends a cover form with this info?

It seems more like an IRS oversight to demand the dependent's PIN and not provide an entry spot for it. However, I know it was required in 2022. I downloaded a 1040 PDF from the IRS and there is no place for a Dependent's PIN.

In any case, I will efile my daughter's return first. We'll see if IRS accepts that. She has a small income and owes no tax.

QUESTION RESOLVED.

It would seem that the electronic filing includes more info than appears on the documents that Turbotax shows us for review, I realized thousands of people have filed in this situation so I efiled. No problem with my daughter's PIN not being on the 1040.  Thanks, Turbotax.

It's 2025 and I wanted to repeat that this is taken care of when you efile, as long as you provided your dependents new PIN for the current tax year.
