when i e file my federal taxes for 2021 does schedule D also get transmitted

When you e-file a tax return all of your data is transmitted electronically.  You do not need to mail anything in an envelope.

so does that mean even if we owe no capital gains schedule D will e transmit with our return?

If there is a reason for your return to include Schedule D it will be transmitted with your return.  We cannot see your return so we do not know if it is needed for your 2021 return.   The data that the IRS needs will be transmitted.

If you want to look at everything first, pay your fees and print a copy before you e-file.

If you are using the CD/download then look in Forms mode to see your schedule D.

what do yo mean pay your fees? We will be getting a refund! we sold our home but have qualified for the exclusion and what to make sure schedule D which shows the calcuations will be transmitted with our return

I mentioned fees because the screen was scrolled up and I thought you were using online software.  If you have desktop, never mind about the fees.
