Duplicatiing 1099-R's?

My wife has a 1099-R showing a rollover from a 403(b) to her IRA.  It is coded "G" in Box7.  It seems to be properly picked up in the Federal return.  However, in the NJ state return, we are being told that "a rollover of $xxxx.xx was entered for ME.  Was any of this rollover to a SIMPLE IRA?" It then asks the same questions for her:

"a rollover of $xxxx.xx was entered for HER.  Was any of this rollover to a SIMPLE IRA?"

Why is TurboTax asking if a single transaction (entered under her name) is being duplicated under my name?

Duplicatiing 1099-R's?

Because New Jersey tax law has very specific rules regarding IRAs vs. Qualified Plans (like a 403b), the software runs a standard "check" for both spouses on a joint return to see if any retirement income needs to be adjusted for state purposes.  TurboTax uses a generic "Rollover" screen for the state of New Jersey. Even though the 1099-R was entered under your wife's name in the Federal section, the state interview "sweeps" the entire return. It asks about you ("ME") first simply because you are listed as the primary taxpayer on the return, then it asks about her.

Since you did not have a rollover, the amount shown should be $0. Answer the questions as they apply to your (lack of) transaction—usually, this means just clicking through or confirming $0.
