I have trying doing what you asked for the 2020 1065 filing for the 2021 1065 filing and it doesn't work. This is the 2nd year we are going around in circles trying to e-file. Why can't Turbo Tax get his fixed?
Please get this fixed or I have to file by mail again this year. I have done everything the system asks and it still give me errors and won't e-file.
Try this trick, it worked for me both for 2020 and 2021 return.
Go to Forms, select Sch B. in line 29, click yes to opt out of Centralized Partnership Audit Regime (allowed if you have less than 100 members). Fill out Sch B2. Remember to use dashes between SSN.
Then you can unclick partnership representative (PR) to proceed.
Filing my 2022 return and this is STILL AN ISSUE!!!!!! 3 hours on the phone and no one can help. No one to email. I can't believe this is still an issue-I paper filed last year as a result. I thought they would fix it by now
I have the exact same problem. Destroys the value of the program if you can't use it to e-file
Thank you Paul. I too wasted a lot of time in the endless loop cycle as described. I followed your instructions to the T and got it to work. To another comment who is a Trustee using SSN and completing form B-1 that asks for EIN, I just entered my SSN in EIN format. Efile worked!
It is now March of 2024 and this is still a problem!!!!!!!! These posts date back to 2020. Ridiculous.
This fix worked for me (it is now 2024 and the bug still exists so apparently TT has no plans for ever fixing it):
1. Go to Step by Step (changing via forms did not work for me)
2. Business Information> Member Summary> click the person who is supposed to the the Partnership Repr.
3. Go through their info making sure that "This member is not a Person" is not checked (TT seems to auto check and every time I go back to it, I find it checked again)
4. Tell us more about this Member: Uncheck " This member is the Partnership Representative."
5. Save Return
6. Run Error Check
7. Enter Address info, highlighted in Red
8. Under Taxpayer Signature be sure to check Partner (or LLC) AND Partnership Representative.
9. Push Send Return Button

Nailed it!! Thank you so much!!
I am doing my 2024 business taxes and the partnership error and the problem is still there as it has been for years and years. I have spent over 15 hours trying to find a work around solution. 2024 business taxes added a new data field "entity name" schedule k-1 worksheet. This data field was not present on my 2023 business tax return for me. The fix MRRTuser included in this discussion did not work for 2024 business taxes.
This field is supposedly imported from my 2023 tax return to my 2024 tax reyrnbut my 2023 did not have this "entity name" data field. The IRS added this data field for 2024 business taxes - so i read.
I have resolved to file paper copies to the IRS. sick and tired of coping with this TT business problem
solution does not work...cannot send efile due to PR being automatically changed to entity. Tried multiple solutions mentioned in TT resources and nothing worked.
I did my TT business taxes weeks ago and i put the detailed fix for this problem in my 2025 tax return folder. I spent 6 hours trying to find a work around for this TT bug, I am away from home now and can't access my notes .I remember going back to the input screen and deselecting the box checked for partner representative for the partners input data. There is a post in the TT community help that is almost good enough except it worked for 2023 taxes but not 2024 taxes. if you can find the post it is 90 % correct. it addresses this same problem.
sorry i cant get my step by step fix for you right now, I know how frustrating this TT bug is
Your best option is to troubleshoot this using Forms Mode.
