Does anyone know why or can tell me an idea of why it's saying I have to mail my state return but they filed my federal return electronically

What state?  Maybe a form is not available.

What is the error message?

Are there any clues when you go through the REVIEW tab?

If you efiled the Federal return first, has it been accepted yet?

A Colorado state tax return.

No error message, just when I scroll down to see my returns , my federal says accepted and my state says "printed and ready to be mailed"

& Yes my federal has been accepted and issued I'm just awaiting the funds in my credit karma account. @mesquitebean

It's possible that some of the Colorado forms were not yet finalized and available at the time you efiled the Federal return.    In any case, for some reason TurboTax thinks you were going to print and mail it.  But if you didn't, then you can go back into the interview and change the filing method to efile the state return, unless there is some other factor preventing it from being efiled.   Here's how to open the return interview to check and, hopefully, change the filing method to efile:

  • Log in, and at the Tax Home look for a link "Add a State."   That doesn't really add one, but opens the return interview back up so that you have a full left column menu.
  • Once the return is open, look at your state return and be sure all is in order, in case any updates changed anything.
  • Then go through the REVIEW tab to see if it displays any errors.
  • Then go to the FILE section and choose to efile only the state return.
  • Continue in the File section until you get to a final screen where you click a big orange button "Transmit Return Now."

NOTE:   Do not make any changes in your Federal return since it's already been filed.
