TurboTax DOES NOT pay themselves, they don't get any of the fee that is charged. The fee is charged by the bank that deducts the fee from your Federal Refund. The charge is stated when you choose the Refund Processing Service. You could have paid by debit card to credit card to avoid the refund processing fee.
The $40 service charge to have the TurboTax account fees deducted from the federal tax return is not a TurboTax service charge. It is the charge imposed by the third party processor. The same third party processor used by other tax preparation software companies who also provide the same type of service.
Since you requested to have the TurboTax account fees deducted from your federal tax refund, the IRS will send the refund to a third party processor to have the fees and the service charge deducted. The third party processor will deduct the TurboTax fees plus the service charge and then attempt to direct deposit the remaining refund balance into the account that you entered on your tax return.
For the status of your tax refund you will need to contact the third party processor, Santa Barbara Tax Product Group, using their website - https://www.sbtpg.com/

I don't understand why they have to charge you extra if you are taking on the protection plus plan.(maximum defense. But oh well. I will continue to use them. I just have never understood.
@tiffluv81 Unfortunately, it is not up to TurboTax to charge the fee or not. The option of the Refund Processing fee is there to offer that service for people who do not have a bank account or credit card to pay for their TurboTax fees. The bank makes the fees for the service. The Maximum Defense is totally separate.
Well the fee has never made me not use TT. lol.. i know you all have no control..
It is a great way to allow you to pay the fees for the return, and not have to pay anything up front.
Well CarissaM,
here's where your WRONG, i don't have a problem with them charging whatever TurboTax wants, AND i actually thought the amount was fair. $40 for Feds and $40 for State....which they made sound all nice and great for them to take their fees from my refund.
But they don't say anything about charging until you are all set to submit everything .. and then they hit you with ... OH we are going to charge you $40 just to take our payments from your refund...
Did i have to pay it. NO, i could have went back and paid with a credit card or bank card in which case I would NOT have been charged an extra $40, but i was tired and frustrated that Intuit did that sneaky **bleep** ... but that's ok... lesson learned.. and Turbo Tax.. lost me and as many people i can convince to NOT use them.
and they probably don't care 1 way or the other.,
So lets see what kind of employee of TurboTax you are.. will you just ignore my legit complaint, or pass it up to someone that should do the right thing and help get a very unsatisfied customer to come back next time, and possibly bring 10 friends also... just in my family i have 2 sons, brother, sister, and numerous relatives. all filing taxes separately.
if that's the case then Turbo Tax is still at fault because they should make it known when they give you the option of paying their fees from your refund... WHICH THEY DO NOT...
it comes up at the end when you are submitting everything.. AND THAT'S NOT RIGHT..

The service charge is clearly displayed when you choose between paying the TurboTax account fees with a credit card or pay with the federal refund.
