It depends. If you worked as a W-2 employee and your employer withheld any federal or state tax you will have to file a return to get a refund, even if you're not otherwise required to file. If your income was self-employment income - reported on a Form 1099-NEC you have to file. But in general, if you are single and your income was less than $13,850 you don't have to file.
