I have been using Turbotax for many years. I usually use Deluxe with State.
Today I looked at recent reviews on Amazon and was shocked at so many bad reviews. All of the problems seemed to be technical issues with installing and running. One reviewer said he could not get it to launch on Windows 10. Another said that he had to update his C++ libraries to get it to work and that when he contacted Intuit to get help they were clueless. Several said they were getting no help from Intuit. Several also said they were long time Turbotax users. One recommended waiting for a few months to see if it gets fixed. I've never seen so many bat TT reviews in another year. Many complained that they can't get refunds from Amazon and have software that doesn't work. I was reading the most recent reviews that were posted in the past few days.
I know that this year TT eliminated CDs and only has digital delivery. Maybe that is at least part of the issue. I have used digital delivery in previous years and never had a problem, but to be honest I was spooked by so many 1 star reviews. Some of them sounded technically competent so it didn't seem that they were all just not familiar with the process.
Do I need to be worried? Is there a problem with TT installing and running on Windows 10 or 11 or both this year?

Corrupted MSI database issues on user system exacerbated the TT install failure when the necessary Visual Basic Runtime could not install. Neither resetting Windows Update nor running DISM multiple times would correct the issue. Finally, resorting to running an In-Place Upgrade (IPU) via Windows Recovery not once but twice finally corrected the system. The IPU preserves apps, accounts and data (thus the In-Place part of the name).
The quirks of the various Windows Updates and the inherent biodegradation of the operating system leads to these types of situations where things break in a seeming irreparable fashion that requires more extreme measures, such as performing the IPU, to regain stable operation. Unfortunately, the IPU also brings with it new Windows features (aka bloatware) for the user to remove afterwards.

Oh, and as a sidenote. Intuit sold Turbotax this year knowing full well that normal portions of it were not actually included at the time of sale, e.g., sales of stock was completely missing until today. Thus, Intuit gave themselves an unauthorized loan for each purchaser. What do we call taking money for nothing or at the very least borrowing money without authorization?
Okay, thanks for reporting you had installation issues with TT too.
So is there a widespread problem installing and running Turbotax this year or not? Anyone know? Any statement by Intuit about this? Or are these just isolated issues?
I aways wait to install TTX until after 1 January, and download the installation file then, after most installation issues have been reported/solved by others that insist on working with the beta version (Thanks to All the Earlybirds, for finding the issues and getting it fixed)
There seem to be early issues in one way or another with it most every year...that is IF....if you get it when it first comes out.
By waiting until January to get the download, you get an updated installation file that might have any initial problems solved. And I usually can use the prior year's software to do my year-end planning anyhow...without bugs in it.
Makes sense since I almost always buy it after Jan. 1 and never had a problem with the digital install.
