Do I get a tax credit for installing an electric vehicle charger during 2019 (installed in January)? Turbo Tax does not think so, but I have other sources saying I can.

Did you follow these steps for the credit -

For an energy-efficient vehicle tax credit

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home & Business)
  • Click on Deductions and Credits
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Cars and Other Things You Own
  • On Energy-Efficient Vehicle Charging Station, click the start or update button

Or enter energy efficient vehicle in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to energy efficient vehicle

Go to IRS Form 8911 instructions - https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i8911.pdf

Receive a federal tax credit of 30% of the cost of purchasing and installing an EV charging station (up to $1,000 for residential installations and up to $30,000 for commercial installations).
