Divorced or single

This should be a simple issue, but no one seems to get it.  My divorce was final in 2020, so I assume that I should no longer consider myself divorced?  What is the cutoff before TT doesn't make any other decisions or forms?

Please, I understand that "Divorced" is not a filing status, but TT might have an approach to completing your taxes if I was divorced within the year that I am filing.

In general, your filing status depends on
whether you are considered unmarried or married.
Unmarried persons. You are considered unmarried for the whole year if, on the last day of
your tax year, you are either:
    • Unmarried, or
    • Legally separated from your spouse under
a divorce or separate maintenance decree.
State law governs whether you are married
or legally separated under a divorce or separate
    maintenance decree.
Divorced persons. If you are divorced under a final decree by the last day of the year,
you are considered unmarried for the whole year

The programs asks for your MARITAL status as of 12/31  and uses that to help determine your correct FILING status which is probably SINGLE.  Please don't take offense over a simple question ...  you can enter single instead of divorced if you wish ... it really doesn't matter to the program.  The interview flow puts in divorced because if it didn't some folks would say I am divorced and there is no category for that ... they may not be able to make the leap to single like you did ... remember interview flows not only follow the IRS pub 17 but also needs to be comprehendable to the masses (which means it is written at a third grade level).
