My employer is based in New York (listed as such on the W2), I lived in Texas (working remotely) for the 2021 tax year, but my W2 correctly lists the state as Illinois, as that is where my branch of the employer is. TurboTax, near the final filing screen, won't let me file because the Illinois state code doesn't match the Texas zip code. What should I do? Should I choose my employer's Illinois zip code?

Illinois does not have zip codes that begin with 7. They begin with 6. Check the entry and what is on your W2. If need be, Google the address to get the correct zip. It could be a typo on the W2.
And, if need be, make sure you have entered all of your information correctly in the Personal Information as well. But that zip is a Texas and not Illinois zip.
What do you mean
but my W2 correctly lists the state as Illinois
lists Illinois as what? Your address? Box 15?
Hi Kris--the W2 box named "State" is box 15. To recap my W2:
Those values are all correct. At the final filing screen, Turbotax doesn't let me file because my Texas zip code does not match the Illinois state code on my W2. The error is in a photo below. I have already paid. What do I need to change to file this?
Also, when I search for my W2 in TurboTax, it appears TurboTax imported my W2 personal address with Illinois as the state (on a TT page where it's showing me the employee information imported from the W2 and reporting my Texas street address correctly except for listing Illinois as the state). Should I hardcode this state correction in my TT W2 import? Is that clear?

Thank you, Daniel, for this reply!
I spoke with someone from TT on the phone. I had to reset the state the W2 electronic importer had read in to be Texas. The issue is solved.
I'm glad you got it fixed!
