Converting a non deductible IRA

Hi..

From 2001-2005 I made $17,000 in non deductible contributions to a traditional IRA.  The account is now worth $50000.  I would like to convert to a Roth this year.   I have no reason to believe my CPA at the time did not file 8606s but I don't have copies.  I do have 5498s showing the contributions and tax returns showing I did not take a deduction for those years.  Therefore I was just going to file taxes showing a conversion with a $17,000 basis.  Anything else you would suggest?

Yes, you will enter your $17,000 basis in TurboTax if you made nondeductible contributions.

If you cannot confirm with the CPA that he filed Form 8606 and do not see Form 8606 included in your past tax returns then you can file the past Form 8606 by itself by getting the Form from the IRS website.
