I'm 65 yo and stopped working 9 years ago, per my current SS statement, I need 4 more work credits to complete the required 40 work credits in order for me get some benefits, like monthly pension, medicare, etc..
My question is, can I file self employment tax and pretend I earned income like $8K last year, I'm willing to pay any taxes I will owe just to complete the 40 work credits.
Thank you.

Not unless you're actually self-employed at some meaningful work. No pretending allowed. Couldn't you get some part-time job to get your 40 credits, Like maybe at Wal-Mart or Costco or something.
You can't report self-employment income unless you're actually self employed.
For 2025, you will get one credit for each $1,810 in income - so you'll need $7,240 total income for the year. You can earn this with part-time or temporary work, or actual self-employment activity.
This may not be the answer you were hoping for, but I want to make sure you avoid potential issues with an audit down the road.
