I have used TurboTax for over four years and have always trusted the service. However, this year I feel deeply discouraged, miss-led, and disappointed. I selected Full Service because I had several new variables in my tax situation and I remember the previous year there was some sort of service to use a live agent and save money and or get more money on my return. I remember having a good experience and I think the total price was $125 so I chose full service. The price estimations were in the neighborhood of 150 excluding state return and sales, tax$ (I thought these were the same thing and at most it would be an extra $20). halfway through I was shown an estimate of just over $200 (I remember telling myself oh wow, I can’t afford that and I will not be doing this next year), but after hours of uploading documents and working with the consultant, I was directed to sign as she was done. I was suddenly presented with a final cost of over $300. The price was only revealed at the very end, and the pressure of the March 31 deadline left me feeling cornered. I only proceeded out of fear of paying even more if I waited.
This experience felt misleading and came at a time when I have just lost my job and will likely be losing my home, while that is not your problem, I still felt taken advantage of and cannot afford this.
I am asking for reconsideration of the fee, not a refund, but for at least the price that I had been led to believe I would be paying the beginning of the process. Otherwise, I cannot continue to use or recommend TurboTax.
