Compensation received from Airlines taxable

I booked Europe flights for my family. Due to some problems, our flight reached our destination one day later. Airlines gave us some percent of the ticket price back to me. Is this a taxable event ?

The refund is not taxable to you because the original purchase is not deductible.

A refund is not taxable because it's a return of your own - presumably already taxed - money.
