Claiming stepparent as dependent

Hello I have a question on regards to claiming a step parent as a dependent. The are currently in arrears, but I assisted them last year. Will my taxes be taken to offset their debt even if they're claimed as a dependent?

Claiming stepparent as dependent

Your tax refund cannot be seized for the debts of a dependent on your tax return.
