Claiming newly migrated in-laws

My in-laws migrated to US on green card on Christmas day and been living with us. Can I claim them for 2021? Someone said after they get government benefits then I can't claim them, like for 2022.

Claiming newly migrated in-laws

Yes You can claim them as dependents

Rules for claiming your in-laws as dependent

  • Did they make less than $4,300 in 2021? Your relative cannot have a gross income of more than $4,300 in 2021 and be claimed by you as a dependent.
  • Do you financially support them? You must provide more than half of your relative’s total support each year.
  • Are you the only person claiming them?
