child tax credit????

msg.pngWe have no children.  We always list NO dependents (just my wife and I) and we always do Married Filing Jointly.

I am soon to submit our 2021 taxes using TurboTax Premier for the Mac.  Turbo Tax is showing TWO errors that I can't get past until I put in a number, apparently..  And that is on Schedule 8812 (a huge, long form on Child Tax Credits).  TT puts up a message that says,

"Schedule 8812: Advance payments received must be entered"...

We receive nothing, never have, never will...  Sure I can put in zero but why am I being asked this at all???  Is this a bug or what???    On the form itself, it has an entry for Taxpayer and then it also has the same for Spouse...  Why????  See screenshot which appears to be showing at the top...

It's not a bug. TurboTax has to ask because, even though you have no children or dependents on your tax return, you might have received advance Child Tax Credit payments. When the error comes up, just enter zero for the advance payments that each of you received. That will eliminate the error.

child tax credit????

Hi, I likely should have read a bit more as I saw others were asking the same...  I went in to TT and did the brief walk through of the child tax credit area, the entire section of about 4 subsections, answered all the simple questions and that appeared to clean it up...  Just not used to having to walk through what I consider to be pretty off the beaten path sections I've walked through for years...  Don't think I've ever encountered this particular situation before...  But what I did seemed to have eliminated those errors just as I could have done what you suggested...  thanks for the help...   And holler back if you see something I did that perhaps you would say I should NOT do???  Just walked through THIS entire section, answering appropriately???  see screenshot...child tax credit.png

Advance Child Tax Credit payments were only for 2021. They never existed before. That's why you never encountered it before. And, as of now, the advance payments are not being continued after 2021.

child tax credit????

That makes sense...  thanks much...
