I figured my taxes then had to wait to finish up and submit them. Meanwhile, my refund amount dropped almost $2000. I went back and re-entered relevant information, and the correct refund amount was restored -- thankfully. It puzzles me why this happened.

The refund amount can change based on information entered. If you are saying that everything has since worked out then that's good. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask.
What I was saying is that the information entered was the same, but when I returned to the program after 3 weeks, the refund amount had changed downward by about $2000. I was wondering why the program did this. Does Turbotax know about this kind of problem? It was a bit upsetting.
The refund can change based on tax changes that apply. If you would like someone to look over the return, please contact us by phone by following the instructions here.
I already sent the taxes in to the IRS. What I did was to re-enter some data about our IRA contributions, which I had previously entered, and the refund amount was restored to the original amount the program had calculated 3 weeks before. What I was asking about was why did the refund amount drop over the 3 week hiatus. It seems, as you say, that there were some "tax changes" in the meantime, but I can't see that because when I re-entered our IRA contribution information, the previous refund amount was restored. My gut tells me that there's something funny about the program. But it seems to have worked out. We'll see what the IRS thinks about it now.
Thanks.
