Capital Gains Calculations are not correct

Hi,

I would like some help to understand why Turbotax capital gains calculations are so different from those completed by my CPA.

I had short term sales of stock purchased from an ESPP and granted via RSUs.  Turbotax is calculating that I owe ~$8,000 more in taxes than my CPA.

we can't see your return.   if you paid a CPA why not use them to file.  the only thing you can do is print out the TT return and compare it to CPA's return.   then you can report what the differences are on each line and maybe we can explain it.

my guess is you entered the wrong cost of the sales in TT.

Capital Gains Calculations are not correct

Hi,

A couple of things - Yes I'm filing the return completed by my CPA.  At the same, I was wanted to try to move to Turbotax for the future and figured the price for the TT would pay off eventually.  This would be a good test for future years to match a certified return.

To be direct I followed TT instructions completely and got a return that is incorrect.   I am working my way through Schedule D to determine what is different and why the error.  Any suggestions on where to specifically start would be appreciated.

That is my suspicion, too.

Say 300k income (no itemization), and 75k in capital gains long term for 2019.  (2018 income is 251,000).

How much is the total tax?

TurboTax is adding the 75k to the income making total income 375k.  Total tax due looks like 28% on 375k instead of 28% on 300k and 15% on 75k.
