You can use it during any years your return qualifies to use it. If you need to itemize or take certain credits or deductions, you may be prompted to upgrade to Deluxe.
However, you may qualify for the TurboTax Freedom Edition. This version is geared towards lower-income filers, regardless
of tax return complexity, and is only offered through the IRS Free File
Alliance (FFA) program. No upgrades are available, but state returns are free.
To qualify for free 2017 federal
and state tax returns in Freedom Edition, you'll need to meet one of these requirements:
- Your 2017
Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) is $33,000 or less
- You qualify
for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
- In 2017, you
served as active duty military (including Reservists and National Guard)
with a maximum AGI of $66,000, and you have a military-issued W-2
