Can't open tax2022 file on new laptop

Can anyone help,

Old laptop is dying, bought a new laptop and reinstalled TT 2022 Business. Copied over the 2022 return to new laptop, but program wont open the file.

Did the file name you copied end in .tax2022?

Would the program itself open? 

you can't copy over the PROGRAM; that has to be downloaded from the original source that yuou purchased it.

the tax file itself, CAN be copied from the old computer. (*.tax2022)

Make sure you save the taxfile on the same drive as the TurboTax program.  Do not try to open from a thumb drive or other drive.   Not sure if that is the problem but it might help.

When a copy file to flash drive it is copied as file type "Turbo Tax 2022 Document".  TurboTax opens fine and will let me start a new return by transferring data from previous year, but when try to open the 2022 file I get this message:

"Your Federal tax return is now on this computer. Let's get your Kansas state forms next.

Error: 190 "

And the 2022 file never opens.

Start a dummy tax return on that computer and download your state file.  Once that is installed your taxfile should open fine.  It does need to be a taxfile and I don't know how to get around if it is coming through as a document.  Someone from support might be able to help with that.  There have sometimes been issues with copying a taxfile to a flash drive.

After you get the program reinstalled the first thing to do before you open your tax return is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to FILE - NEW). Enter some basic information, then go to the state tab and download the state program. Then try to open your existing return, go to FILE - OPEN
