On behalf of my minor child.
I filed using Turbo Tax for him last year - he's 15 but had self employment income (mowing lawns) of around $700 and ROTH Ira contributions of around $500. When I try to do his 2025 taxes, Turbo Tax says it can't find his 2024 return to transfer info over. Yet, I can clearly see and even download the 2024 1040 in his account. I also can see that payment I made to Intuit last year and the payment he made to the IRS for taxes. So - what's the deal here? Any idea why Turbo Tax can't find it, but I can clearly see it in his account?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them. Log out of the account you are in now.
But when I'm signed in to the account that I'm using to complete his 2025 taxes, I can literally see the 2024 tax documents in Past Year Documents.
Sounds like something got stuck. You can try these things:
Most TurboTax errors happen because the browser is trying to use an old "session" from a previous visit. By clearing the cache or using Incognito mode, you force the browser to establish a brand-new, secure connection with the Intuit servers.
I have turbo tax 2024 on my computer and can pull up the return, but when I try to have 2025 use it, it says it. can't be found/

I'll talk in general how that process works, and maybe that will provide you some information. Without any information otherwise, I'll assume you are using desktop TurboTax for 2025, and that you have the *.tax2024 data file on your computer. When you launch the 2025 desktop product and then choose to start a new tax return, TurboTax will churn a bit searching for the *.tax2024 data file. It is most commonly in the default location which is in the Documents\TurboTax folder (at least in the Windows version), but it could have been saved somewhere else that you preferred. If the 2025 program finds it, it will ask you if you want to transfer it in to 2025. If the 2025 program doesn't find a *.tax2024 data file, you can use the Browse button on that screen to open a mini-Explorer popup with a file directory, so you can point TurboTax to the location of the saved *.tax2024 data file.
