Can multiple people files their taxes using Turbo Tax desktop version?

I am wondering if multiple people can file their taxes using Turbo Tax desktop. It looks like it includes 5 federal  tax preparation & e-files but only 1 state tax preparation. If there is only one state tax preparation, how can multiple people use it?

Turbo Tax only allows you to download one state for free.  As long as the five filers are all using that one state, the software allows you to use it for all those filers.  If additional states are required, you can purchase other states software.

In the Desktop program you get one free state PROGRAM download to prepare unlimited state returns. Then each state return (including the first one) is $20 to efile, usually goes up to $25 March 1. Or you can print and mail state for free.  

You can prepare unlimited federal and state returns but only efile 5 federal and state.  The rest you can print and mail.

I have filed two so far, my married filing jointly with my husband and my daughter filed hers. My son will too, so you can definitely do multiple.

@tan_zhif  @Damerault   Some more info about doing multiple returns.

To start a new return go up to FILE - New.  But first be sure to save your return with a unique name so it doesn’t get confused with another return.  Go to File-Save or Save As.  Because if you do another return and they have the same first name or initial as you their return might save over yours.

And be in the habit of saving Frequently!  When you are done save both the .tax data file and save it as a pdf file, go to File-Save to PDF.  Then you won’t need the program installed to view or print your return in the future.  Like if you need a copy to get a loan or something.  And save backups off of your computer like to a flash drive or burn a CD.

This is important.  If you do another return for someone else like your child and their name is the same or similar to yours then it might overwrite your return.  You have to save each return with different names so you can tell them apart.  Like if your name is John and your son is also named John it will save them with the same name so the second one will overwrite the first return.  Go to File-SaveAs and give it a unique name.

Multiple people can file with the TT desktop, including their state returns. The "One State" that you see mentioned frequently in the store-bought version refers to the fact that software for one state (eg CA or NY or AZ...) is included in the original purchase price. If one of the filers using your package has to file in a different state than you, you must download the additional state software for $39.99. There is also a filing fee for each state you efile with.  

Note that there is no limit to the number of returns you can prepare on TT, but you can only efile 5. You would need to prepare the extra returns, print them out, and send them in via snail mail or the like.
