No, you cannot split your payment within the TurboTax program itself, whether you are trying to pay your TurboTax software fees or your federal tax bill.

However, there is a very simple "workaround" for paying your IRS tax bill that most people use to get around this limitation.

  1. TurboTax only allows one payment method for e-filing. If you need to use two different credit cards, or a mix of bank account and card, follow these steps:
  2. In TurboTax: When you get to the "How do you want to pay your federal taxes?" screen, select "I will mail a check." * The Result: This tells TurboTax you aren’t paying through them. They will print a payment voucher (Form 1040-V), but you don’t actually have to mail it.
  3. The Solution: Go directly to the IRS Payments website
  4. There, you can make multiple separate payments. For example, you can make one payment with Card A and a second payment with Card B.

The IRS allows up to two credit/debit card payments per tax year (or per tax period) through their authorized processors.

If you are paying for TurboTax fees, two different card payments are not accepted.
