I need to amend my federal return, and I also need to file a form 843. It seems that they each should go to a different IRS mailing address, so I was not sure if they need to mailed separately to their respective addresses or if I can I submit both of these by mail in the same envelope? If so, I would probably send it to the address for the 1040X? Thanks!

@joeman22 , I am not sure that I understand the situation fully, Generally, a 1040X filed within the allowed period, should result in correcting errors or changes made by the taxpayer. Thus there is a refund issued when IRS agrees. Thus there should be no need for an 843.
If you are asking for abatement of penalties / interest caused by 1040-X ( e.g. your tax liabilities went up as a result of corrections on 1040-X ), then I would include the 843 along with the 1040-X, the updated 1040 and payment of course.
If IRS has made an error or some other reason you need to ask for abatement of penalties / interest charges, then the 843 should go on its own.
Is this what you mean or am I in the left field ?
