The free edition supports 1095-A forms if you otherwise qualify, see below.

Situations covered (assuming no added tax complexity):

  • W-2 income
  • Limited interest and dividend income reported on a 1099-INT or 1099-DIV
  • IRS standard deduction
  • Earned Income Tax Credit (EIC)
  • Child Tax Credit (CTC)
  • Student loan interest deduction

Situations not covered:

  • Itemized deductions
  • Unemployment income reported on a 1099-G
  • Business or 1099-NEC income
  • Stock sales
  • Rental property income
  • Credits, deductions and income reported on other forms or schedules (for example, income related to crypto investments)

No.   You do not have a "simple" return if you have a 1095A.    You will need a paid version of the software.

Or—-Use this IRS site for other ways to file for free.  There are 8  free software versions available from the IRS Free File site

The free edition does support the 1095-A form.  I was able to start with the free edition, but unfortunately was not able to continue once it was determined that I received an excess of advanced premium tax credit for my affordable care act plan. Otherwise, I would have been able to file using the free edition.
