Can I e-file my return after filing extension (still not accepted yet) on the same day?

Is there going to be an issue if a return is filed a few hours after the extension was submitted and is still under processing as extension accepted confirmation has not been received yet. 

What if someone panicked and filed and extension unnecessarily?

You should wait until it is accepted. 

You don't need to do anything special to finish a return for which you filed an extension. When your return is done and you're ready to file, the File section will walk you through the filing process, whether you want to e-file or print and mail your return.
